BEFRIEND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Why International Students?

There were over 750,000 international students studying in the United States last year, 23,000 of those studying in Chicagoland. Many of these students have come from countries with minimal gospel witness and have a unique opportunity to be exposed to the gospel while in the United States.

More Chinese people immigrate to the U.S. than any other Asian group. Yet fewer than 10% will be befriended by an American, let alone a Christian.

The purpose of international student ministry is to further the gospel of Christ within the lives of both College Church members and international students, focused on building friendships and together studying Scripture.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

  • Last fall College Church hosted an International Student Dinner attended by over 50 international students and 50 Americans.
  • Using American holidays as opportunities, we hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations aimed at teaching international students about the meaning of these holidays.
  • College Church hosted VisionHome 2011, a conference focused on equipping international students who are returning home to China as Christians.
  • Each month we gather in prayer for our international student friends.
  • A small six-week evangelistic Bible Study had their first meeting on March 6.

Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
